Cast Out

She walked through the jungle

with her eyes closed,

she walked so softly,

she could hear her own heart beating,

and her breath against the leaves.

Misty moonlight was beaming

slightly through small cracks in the green canopy.

She opened her eyes just for a moment,

as the rain began to fall.

Rain fell into her eyes, as they became blurred,

she closed them again.

She remembered when she had children,

she remembered sheltering her babies in a storm.

She misses them sometimes.

She remembers letting them go,

she recalls having to force some to leave.

She was a good mother, she'd of died

to ensure the eternity of her family.

She didn't die though, she fought and scratched

her way through many years of struggle.

She is old now,

and it is her time to be let go,

she has now been cast out

in order to keep her family alive.

She has outlived her usefulness,

and for her

they do not cry.

She walks out of the jungle,

as she falls into the tall grass, she dies.

No one is there to mourn her passing,

no one is there to see.

But for this lady lioness,

it's a small sacrifice

for a life of living free.
